The Sebald Lecture commemorating W.G. Sebald, German novelist and founder of the British Centre for Literary Translation, will be given this year by Germaine Greer. Her lecture 'On Not Knowing (Aeolian) Greek: The Metamorphoses of Sappho' forms part of an event celebrating the art of translation. The evening also includes presentation of the 2005 Translation Prizes honouring the best in contemporary literary translation.
Congratulations to Karen Leeder, winner of the 2005 Schlegel-Tieck Prize for her translation of Selected Poems by Evelyn Schlag. Karen Leeder, Fellow in German at New College Oxford, has published widely on German poetry and translated Bertolt Brecht, Michael Krüger, Brigitte Oleschinski and Raoul Schrott.
